Provenance: Caroline Marmon Fesler (1878-1960); thence in the family by descent.
Mrs. Fesler was a major Indianapolis art collector and avid patron of the arts. Her father, David W. Marmon (1944-1909) was the founder of the Marmon Motor Car Company in Indianapolis. The Marmon Wasp was the car that won the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. This Steele picture was installed in a place of honor over the fireplace in the Fesler family home at 4035 North Pennsylvania Street in Indianapolis. It has undergone a museum-quality conservation and is housed in a superior quality hand carved, period-style 22K gold gilt frame.
